Romania’s first HDD ocean outfall has now been successfully installed as part of the Midia Gas Development Project. The complex project included a 1.5km gas pipeline crossing under the shore of the Black Sea, major marine operations, and challenges such as weak marine sands, variable rock formations, and tough weather conditions.

Future-Proof Solutions is pleased to have provided trenchless engineering services to support this innovative project. As well as hydrofracture analysis to minimise risk of frac-out in the sensitive inland sea, and detailed pipeline installation calculations, we also provided a customised drill pipe bending and lifting analysis. Based on project-specific parameters and equipment specifications, this new product provides bending stress capacity calculations and lifting point guidance in order to prevent deformation of drill pipe, further minimising operational risk.

Drill pipe bending calculations

All calculations of this new product were rigorously scrutinised and validated by Lloyds of London for this project in order to ensure adequate risk control within operational parameters and insurance coverage. Stay tuned for official launch of our drill pipe bending and lifting analysis in the future, or feel free to get in touch for a customised calculation for your organisation’s next HDD ocean outfall.

Congratulations to the teams at GSP, Borizontal, Revicond Canaltech, and BSOG for the successful installation of this ground-breaking trenchless project. Read more about the project here.
