FPS provided design and engineering support for a recent HDD crossing under Bulimba Creek and the busy South East Busway as part of the larger Brisbane Metro Project.
On request from the project’s HDD contractor, SEQ Trenchless, FPS assisted with design optimisation in order to minimise project risk and best suit the project’s chosen plant and equipment. Based on these tailored requirements, FPS supplied profile and alignment drawing, hydrofracture drawing, installation and integrity calculations, drill plan, and settlement analysis for the complex, 308m crossing.
With only a narrow construction corridor available next to two very busy roads, but still needing midi class capacity, SEQ Trenchless mobilised their brand new Tracto-Technik Grundodrill 28N midi rig to site for its maiden HDD crossing. Contending with variable sandstone conditions, waterway and road obstacles, several services, and a horizontal curve, the new rig handled drilling of the 28” borehole with ease. Executing the necessary rig orientation reversal for pullback, installation of the nine-conduit high-voltage feeder bundle was completed without a hitch in November 2022.
