Future-Proof Solutions was pleased to have been involved in a recent HDD crossing project as part of the Energex feed upgrade in Hillcrest, QLD. Required in order to provide electricity to a newly developed business area, which had previously been relying on generators, the project involved a short but complex HDD crossing under the busy Logan Motorway.
The FPS team provided HDD design as well as trenchless engineering and advisory support to facilitate positive outcomes for the project. Given the potential impacts of a road closure on the motorway, the HDD crossing was optimised to minimise its impacts. Design and methodology optimisation included detailed planning and engineering, taking in factors such as the sandstone geology, challenging elevation changes, specifications, and objectives to minimise disruption and impacts to infrastructure and the community.
Our team worked closely with client IKON Electrical, HDD contractor SEQ Trenchless, and other stakeholders to complete the necessary engineering and project facilitation, including a full HDD design and engineering suite with settlement analysis and monitoring. The HDD pilot hole was drilled via night works, and installation of the seven-conduit bundle was completed successfully in early 2023. The trenchless installation will now enable access to a reliable electrical connection for local business in the area.
