One of Queensland’s busiest roads stayed open during installation of new services underneath it, thanks to trenchless technology. By using HDD to install new communications and electrical conduits as part of the $200M major upgrade, traffic was free to flow along the Bruce Highway during installation.

The advantages of HDD came to the fore when tasked with completing the 14 road crossings. With very small easements with restricted access, as well as strict requirements for completing crossings under roads controlled by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, thorough and detailed design in full consultation with the contractors delivering the works was a must. Future-Proof Solutions worked collaboratively with HDD delivery contractor SEQ Trenchless to complete detailed, for-construction design suites, minimising design risks and ensuring the installations could be safely and efficiently completed as planned.

SEQ Trenchless demonstrated their adaptable, can-do approach when completing the installations. Mobilising their D23x30 and JT30 rig, the 14 crossings were all drilled and grouted during night shift, simplifying access and SIMOPs for completion of other works in the larger project scope.

With the trenchless crossings now complete, improved signalling infrastructure along the 100km + stretch of highway will be installed.
